Ferndale turkeys grow naturally, without the use of antibiotics or artificial growth promotants. During the temperate months, they are rotated on fresh pasture so they have access to clean air and fresh grass.

Lost Coast

Cattle are never confined, unless they require special care and are raised 100% free of hormones and antibiotics. Transport is minimized to reduce stress, with most of the herd remaining within a 20-mile radius their entire lives.


Mariposa Ranch

100% grass fed & 100% grass finished, free of antibiotics, hormones, & grains. GMO-free raised on Mariposa Valley pastures free of herbicides, pesticides, or commercial fertilizers.

Rancho Llano Seco

Heritage breed, GAP-2 Certified Duroc, Yorkshire, & Landrace pigs fed GMO-free vegetarian grains & legumes 90% of which is grown on the ranch. Zero-waste ranch focused on composting & land management.

Pasturebird

Chickens are raised outside, in a natural habitat & rotated to fresh pasture every day to help ensure sustainability & regenerative soil & grasslands. Birds are raised hormone & antibiotic free.

Electric City Butcher is committed to sourcing only the most sustainably and humanely raised meats. We purchase from small, family-owned farms exclusively in California that have a generations-long commitment to quality, care, and love for their animals and their land.

We are often asked what are our sourcing standards for the meats we serve. It really comes down to relationships. Not only do we know our farmers by first name, but we visit them annually. We also have each whole animal hand-delivered to our shop. Our team is quite literally the third set of hands to handle the meat sold in our store, right after the farmer and the USDA-certified slaughterhouse.

Our Meat Sourcing Basics Include:
